Alex Hofmann - The road to becoming a racing driver
Alex Hofmann started his racing career as a wildcard rider and showed his passion for motorcycles at a young age. His talent led him to his debut at the 1997 German Grand Prix in the 125 cc class on a Yamaha, where he finished 14th.
In 1998, Hofmann celebrated great success when he won both the German and European Championships in the 250 cc class. His impressive performances earned him the attention of the motorsport world, and he achieved a respectable tenth place in the quarter-liter German Grand Prix.
The MotoGP era
The premier class of motorcycle racing, MotoGP, was calling for Hofmann, and in 2002 he made his debut in this challenging series. He rode for the Red Bull Yamaha WCM team and later switched to Kawasaki. His unwavering determination and his nickname "Alex66" became trademarks on the motorsport scene.
The challenges and triumphs
Alex Hofmann's career has been characterized by ups and downs. In the 2007 season, he initially enjoyed promising results, including an impressive fifth place at the French Grand Prix. However, in training for the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, he suffered a painful injury, an open fracture of his left hand, following a collision with Sylvain Guintoli.
Despite these setbacks, Hofmann fought his way back and returned to the racing scene. However, there were also controversial moments, such as at the Portuguese Grand Prix in September 2007, when he retired from the race prematurely due to problems with his bike.

The TV commentary job
After retiring from active racing, Alex Hofmann found a new vocation as a TV commentator. From 2009 to 2014, he worked for TV channel Sport1 as a co-commentator, presenter and interviewer for the motorcycle world championship broadcasts. With the return of the Motorcycle World Championship to Eurosport for the 2015 season, he also moved there and worked as a reporter from the pit lane.
Hofmann has been with ServusTV since 2016, commentating on the Motorcycle World Championship alongside Christian Brugger. He has also occasionally stood in for Florian König during Formula 1 broadcasts on German TV channel RTL.
The versatility of Alex Hofmann
Away from the racetrack, Alex Hofmann is a versatile person. He is married and the proud father of two children, Travis and Sienna. In addition to his native German, Hofmann is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian and French.
