What is the State of Charge (abbreviated SOC)
for the intAct Battery-Guard?

Understand the state of charge of your battery in detail

Many of our customers have questions about the State of Charge, or SOC for short, for the intAct Battery-Guard. In this blog post, we explain step by step what exactly the SOC is, how it is calculated and why it can be inaccurate in some cases.

Our video on the SOC of the intAct Battery-Guard gives you all the information you need at a glance.

The State of Charge: your battery monitor

The state of charge of your battery is displayed as a percentage. This means you always know exactly how much energy is left in your battery and when it is time to recharge it.
The picture shows a smartphone in front of a battery. The battery charge status is checked in the Battery-Guard app.

Calculating the SOC: voltage and more

The intAct Battery-Guard measures the voltage of your battery in volts. The higher the voltage, the fuller the battery. This voltage value is then converted into a percentage value.

Intelligent algorithm for precise results

However, the state of charge of a battery depends not only on the voltage, but also on other factors such as the age and condition of the battery. This is why the intAct Battery-Guard uses an intelligent algorithm in the "intAct Battery-Check" app.

This algorithm gets to know your battery over time and adjusts the percentage value of the SOC to the actual state of your battery. This means you always receive precise information about the charge status of your battery.

Learning phase of the algorithm

In the first few days after installing the Battery Guard, there may be inaccuracies in the SOC display. The algorithm first needs sufficient data about your driving behavior and the charging processes during the journey to be able to deliver precise results.

Optimal use of the algorithm

The algorithm works best if, ideally, you do not only drive short distances. When driving short distances, you draw more energy from the battery when starting than it gets back from the alternator during the journey. This accelerates the ageing process of the battery, which the algorithm recognizes and displays in a lower SOC value.

Important:
The intelligent Battery Guard algorithm only works for starter batteries, i.e. car batteries, motorcycle batteries, etc.
For all other applications such as supply batteries or traction batteries, you must switch to "Custom battery" in the app.
You can find out how this works in a separate video.

User-defined settings

The intAct Battery-Guard with intelligent algorithm technology offers you precise monitoring of the charge status of your starter battery. This allows you to keep control of your vehicle's energy supply and react in good time when your battery needs to be charged.
