What choice do I have when it comes to scooter batteries?

Lightly motorized scooters, but also light or small motor vehicles are classic vehicles for short distances in the city or in the countryside. They are inexpensive, practical and a good alternative to a car, especially if you have parking problems or do not yet have a driver's license.

From the multitude of modern two-wheeler battery technologies, these two in particular come into question:

Prices for small scooter batteries are usually low, and the difference between a pre-filled AGM battery (SLA) and a GEL battery is only a few euros. It is worth taking a close look at which battery is better suited to your riding habits and, if necessary, choosing the more expensive one. Even cheaper wet-cell and AGM batteries with a separate acid pack can only be filled by stationary specialist dealers and require maintenance.

AGM battery: Ideal for short-distance drivers?

You ride short distances: To work, to university, around the corner to the ice cream parlor, etc. Even several times a day. By constantly starting the engine, more power is drawn from the battery each time than can be returned to the scooter battery via the alternator during the short journey. The battery not only becomes increasingly empty, but also less and less powerful. It ages much faster.

In this case, we clearly recommend a pre-charged AGM or SLA battery. Compared to other battery technologies, it can absorb charge more quickly and best compensate for the deficits caused by short journeys. You will not be able to completely avoid charging this battery with a charger. Normally, however, it is rarely necessary. Nevertheless, it can happen that your battery has to start even though it is not optimally charged. Our intAct Bike-Power SLA still provides very good starting performance.

What else the intAct Bike-Power SLA can do

AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat, which translates as absorbent glass fiber fleece. This fleece absorbs the normally liquid battery acid. It expands and completely fills the spaces between the lead plates of the battery. This makes the battery much less sensitive to shocks caused by vibrations. The factory-filled and sealed intAct Bike-Power SLA does not leak and can withstand being upside down for a short time. It is completely maintenance-free. 

GEL battery: Top for many consumers?

You have a navigation device plugged into your scooter, you also ride in colder weather and are happy about your heated grips or seats?

Newer scooters often have ABS fitted ex works, but other consumers go beyond what is included as standard. If you don't want to do without additional safety and comfort on your scooter, we clearly recommend a GEL battery. Because the GEL battery can withstand being drained of up to 50% of its charge and still start reliably, it is perfect for scooters with a lot of equipment.

What else can the intAct Bike-Power GEL do?

Our intAct Bike-Power GEL combines the advantages of GEL batteries in terms of self-discharge and features with an unusually high starting power for GEL batteries. Even 30% more than a wet battery. To achieve this, we use a special alloy and a special grid shape. This means that you still have enough charge to start your vehicle several times despite long downtimes and many consumers. Thanks to the GEL, this battery can withstand shocks and vibrations even better than an AGM battery. It can also be installed at an angle of up to 90°, is leak-proof and absolutely maintenance-free.
