No battery acid sales to end customers

On February 1, 2021, a decisive change came into force that severely restricts the sale of sulphuric acid to end customers in the EU. The so-called Acid Regulation (EU Regulation 2019/1148) primarily affects the purchase of batteries supplied with loose acid packs. In this article, we explain exactly what this regulation means and what impact it has on you as an end customer.
The EU Acid Protection Regulation serves to protect the public from the misuse of hazardous chemicals. Sulphuric acid in particular can be used for illegal purposes, which is why its sale is subject to strict regulations.
For you as the end consumer, this regulation means that you can no longer buy batteries with a separate acid pack or loose battery acid. What sounds complicated at first glance is quickly explained: batteries that were previously supplied with a separate acid solution may no longer be sold to you in this form. However, this does not mean that you have to do without these batteries completely.
You can still buy motorcycle batteries with acid packs, such as the intAct Bike-Power Classic and Bike-Power AGM.
The crucial difference is that your dealer must fill the battery on site. The battery may only be handed over to you after the filling process. This process takes about 15 minutes.
Fortunately, there are several alternatives to the classic battery with an acid pack. AGM and gel batteries are an excellent choice if you don't have the time or inclination to wait for your battery to be filled. These batteries are already filled and sealed at the factory, so they are ready for immediate use without any additional steps. They also offer a number of advantages: they are more powerful, more robust and more resistant to vibration, which makes them particularly suitable for use in motorcycles.
Our intAct Bike-Power SLA and Bike-Power GEL batteries are among the most popular alternatives. These models are characterized by their high starting power and long service life.
f you are looking for a particularly vibration-resistant battery, we recommend our intAct Bike-Power HVT and Bike-Power GEL HVT-HD, which have been specially developed for motorcycles with large displacement, such as Harleys.
The EU Acid Protection Regulation may initially mean a change, but it also offers the opportunity to switch to more advanced battery solutions. Motorcycle batteries with acid packs can still be purchased, but must be filled on site. Alternatives such as AGM or gel batteries not only offer you convenience, but also better performance and greater safety.
